Notice:

Individuals having difficulty with stairs, walking, or standing for a length of time should consider this tour. This tour route is most similar to Tour 1 but without any stairs. You may use your own wheelchair, borrow one of ours or walk at a slow pace using ramps. Wheelchairs or scooters must be no wider than 28 inches and no longer than 40 inches.

Accessible Experience Tour consists of approximately 2/3 mile route. Duration is 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Tour Description

Accessibly Designed Tour includes the movie Hearst Castle Building the Dream and is available for the ground floor only. Tour may be modified to accommodate visitors during inclement weather. Outdoors, the tour includes gardens, views of guest cottages and a glimpse of the outdoor Neptune Pool. Indoors, the tour visits a guesthouse, the ground floor of Casa Grande and the indoor Roman Pool.

Capacity - 2. Additional party members not needing accessible accommodations may wish to book a concurrent Experience tour, and the entire party may see the Castle ground floor together.

Important Information

Hearst Castle accepts VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Free day use parking is available for automobiles, motorcycles, tour buses and recreational vehicles. Large, bulky backpacks, folding chairs, camera bags, tripods and monopods, etc. are not allowed due to the narrow hallways and numerous stairs. No food or drink is permitted on tours.

Accessibility

Wheelchairs are available at no extra charge, or if the visitor has his/her own chair, it must be capable of entering doorways 28 inches wide. A person strong enough to safely move an occupied wheelchair up and down long, steep inclines and narrow ramps must accompany them.

Amenities

The Visitor Center offers a variety of food and drink services. Guests may use large outdoor picnic tables or dine indoors.

Directions

Visitors should arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the tour time and pick up their tickets at the Rangers Office.
