Experience Tour consists of approximately 170 stairs (up and down) and 2/3 mile route to walk. Duration is 1 hour and 45 minutes with a considerable amount of standing.

Children ages 6 to 17 qualify for a Child ticket. Children under the age of 6 do not need a ticket as long as they do not occupy a seat on the bus.

Tour Description

Experience Tour - the main tour of the Castle, recommended for the first time visitor. The least strenuous of the tours, provides a broad overview of all facets of the Castle. It also includes a ticket to the large format film playing at the Hearst Castle Theater - Hearst Castle Building the Dream. (Tour 1)

Important Information

Hearst Castle accepts VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Free day use parking is available for automobiles, motorcycles, tour buses and recreational vehicles. Large, bulky backpacks, folding chairs, camera bags, tripods and monopods, etc. are not allowed due to the narrow hallways and numerous stairs. No food or drink is permitted on tours.

The Visitor Center offers a variety of food and drink services. Guests may use large outdoor picnic tables or dine indoors.

Directions

Visitors board the Hearst Castle bus at the Visitor Center as they begin their journey for the five mile trip to the top of the hill. The view out of the window shows the natural beauty that attracted William Randolph Hearst to this spectacular location.
