Tour Description

Design and construction of ¿La Cuesta Encantada¿ (the Enchanted Hill) took over three decades. The Designing the Dream Tour explores the evolution of William Randolph Hearst¿s magnificent estate, from its earliest construction in the 1920s, through the final touches of the mid-1940s. Your knowledgeable guide will take you by the world-famous Neptune Pool and through the lush gardens of the estate. After exploring the grounds, you will see the interior rooms of Casa del Sol, one of the three guest cottages. The rest of the tour will take you to the North Wing of Casa Grande (big house). Workers completed these guest rooms in the late 1930s and mid-1940s; they stand in stark contrast to the rest of the estate and reflect the changing tastes of both the client, William Randolph Hearst, and his architect, Julia Morgan. Your tour ends with a behind the scenes trip to the glorious Roman Pool where you will visit dressing rooms and end your tour poolside. The duration of your tour does not include the 15 minute bus ride to the hilltop. Please allow 1 hour between tours.
